Crank gear supplier? - mk1-mark - 07-10-2020

Can anyone suggest somewhere I can get a replacement crank sprocket.  Unfortunately as we were stripping a spare engine last night it lost a tooth during some over enthusiastic prying.

I made a proper puller after it bust.

I've got some spare I think. What size do you need?

Ah ha! You learn something new every day don't you Smile

Thank you very much for your kind offer.

How do I tell what size I have ?

You beat me to it Charles!

Thanks for the heads up re Dave Dye. Will bear it in mind for the future. However, this is a real budget rebuild, just to get a car moving again, so I'd rather stick with s/h if possible.

Thanks, M

I'm assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that you mean the crank timing gear? If so, they made them in various sizes (+- a few thou) to match the spacing of the drillings on each crank case. There should be numbers stamped on your existing ones.

As Geoff says, thus better to look for an appropriate pair rather than an individual gear.
As many point out, the backlash now is not what it was when new; but wise to check it at least.
