Bronze age Seven? - Howard Wright - 02-05-2019

Hi All

The more I scrape away decades of gunge from the back axle the more I think that the ends are bronze.  Anyone else seen this?

Howard

I reccon someone copper plated it at some time - is it magnetic ?

You're right Bob

It is magnetic.  But why plate the axle ends?  The banjo and tubes are plain steel.

Cheers

Howard

The tube is brazed into the axle end. Probably that’s where it comes from.

Because someone could ? It would help to prevent rust or perhaps in the past it looked good ? Easily done with some copper sulphate.

A good friend of mine ran his Chummy for year with a chrome plated front axle fitted - blingtastic!
