Came across this photo of a Chummy and Rolls Royce at Glasgow docks taken in late 1963, both cars had been part of the John Cuthill Sword collection. I believe they were waiting for shipment to America after the auction sale of 7th September 1963, the seven was lot number 15 and the Rolls Royce lot number 109. Does any body know where ER 8727 ended up, it's not recognised by the DVLA and I don't think it's on the chassis register.

did it have some sporting history? It looks lower, but could it just be windscreen removed for shipping?

I remember hearing or reading back in the early 1970's about the 1963 J.C. Sword Collection Auction in Scotland, but there appears to be little if any information about it online. It's briefly mentioned in the following link, but not in relation to the Chummy. The 1960's / 70's B&W photos in the link do show a couple of larger Austins - a 1927 Austin Twelve YH 2485 owned in 1975 by a Barry Smedley owner of Smedley's restaurant in Norwich and currently Taxed and a 1931 Austin 16/6 Gordon England Cabriolet TG 2073 owned in 1963 by Mr B C Starr of Norwich - sadly the DVLA Database shows the registration of the 16/6 as 'Vehicle details could not be found' - must be a pretty rare model, has it survived?

Anyone with early editions of Veteran & Vintage magazine, first published in 1956 will probably find an article detailing the 1963 J.C. Sword Collection Auction with information on the various lots.

Found 1962 and 1965. But no 1963.

The Sword Collection auction was on 7th September 1962.
The Chummy ER 8727 was listed as 1927 and sold for £100. The 1907 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost sold for £2900; other Austins included a 1912 10hp tourer BL 4134 at £365 and a 1914 14hp coupe with no recorded registration at £165.

The Bank of England inflation calculator shows that spending £100 in 1962 was the equivalent of spending £2,000 today - the 1907 Silver Ghost £59,000.
BL 4134 is currently taxed, though the DVLA / mycarcheck show it to be a January 1921 registered Austin tourer of 1772cc.

Before his death in 1960 John Sword built up a collection of over 200 cars and other mechanical collectables. These were sold off at two auctions, the first being held on Friday 7th September 1962 followed by another sale held on Friday 12 March 1965. The catalogue for the 1962 sale lists 119 cars by 66 different makers and included 16 Rolls Royces, 6 Sunbeams, 2 Bentleys and 4 Austins - 1912 10HP, 1914 15HP, 1927 7HP and a 1928 20HP. The text on the photos below suggest they were taken in between the two sales.
I'd be interested to know if anybody has access to a copy of the catalogue for the second sale.

I found the requisite V&V.
Both the Chummy and the Ghost went to the Harrah Museum in Reno, along with a far few others. The Chummy made £100.
Now a request. Does.anyone have the similar info for the 1965 sale?. I wonder if there was a.Turner Miesse steam car sold?

On a similar theme, do you or any of your steam road locomotive friends have access to a copy of the auction catalogue for the famous W. J. King of Bishops Lydeard steam road locomotive sale on the 14th May 1988. I'd be interested to know if an Austin 7 van or van body was included in the sale.
