RE: Pricey, but.... - Nigel was in Brittany - 06-09-2017

Didn't Black and White Cars in Poole sell 2 of these last year?

RE: Pricey, but.... - Mike Costigan - 06-09-2017

The Black and White cars were both B-Type coupes from the late 1920s.

so offers on £39k could be cheap for someone?

The black coupe that sold few years ago was a repro 1923 Coupe (Heath body) built up on a modified Ruby chassis by the Austineers.

If anyone is interested in the GE Silent Saloon, please contact me and I will put you in touch with the vendor.

The Source Book is probably the reason for the vendor making misinformed claims about this car, I believe it was also published elsewhere that this was a one off for Herbert's daughter but can't remember where. This is the problem when things appear in print, to many, particularly newcomers to our world, if it is published it must be true!

Brilliant Ruairidh, thank you for posting the pictures (thanks also to Tony and Damian).
Do you know of any other standard silent saloons?

The coloured photo submitted by Ruairidh suggests a replica when you notice the 1930-model wings, just for a start.    Cheers,  Bill

I have never seen a Standard Saloon in the flesh Timothy.

RE: Pricey, but.... - Mike Costigan - 07-09-2017

Bill, XX 8390 was/is quite definitely the real deal; back in the 1970s we weren't devious enough to create an authentic-looking wreck! Obviously at some time in its past the front wings were updated to 1930-31 style, but Ruairidh's third photo shows it in its restored condition with early-style wings re-instated.

Mike is quite correct, on all counts - look again at the picture taken in 1947.
