Re Tony's cotter, if you thread the extension can use it with a tube to extract the pin whenever required without damage!

Eltos replica remote gear change arrived today and as it's not too hot, fitted it.   Went for a drive  keeping in mind that the gate is now reversed ..all good but will take a bit to reverse the map in my head it's now the same as a GP Bugatti and could be just as much fun.

Lovely day down here today, not a cloud in the sky and it's about 21°C. Perfick. Got the RP out just before lunch for a tootle into the Cévennes to see the Chapelle de Mondajors" which is reputed to be the smallest church in France having a surface area of 29m². I couldn't verify that because the door was locked. Presumably you have to ask for the key at the town hall, but I was a bit pushed for time so didn't bother. It's a nice drive up a very narrow and winding lane which follows the Galeizon river, close to St Paul la Coste which the Dunford family passed on their way from Rekkers Towers to Meyruis last year. It's very much in the middle of nowhere. Apparently the chapel is a remnant of the chateau that once stood on the spot, but it was destroyed during the wars of religion at the beginning of the 18th century. The Chapel which seats 15 is the only part that survived. 37km from here. Took me 3/4hr.

This is as near as I could get with the car:

after that it's just a narrow rocky footpath to the chapel:

My car was built 90 years ago today and was dispatched on 21st.
I have bought a birthday card and some red ribbon so it can be decorated for the Borders Vintage Automobile Club run round The Borders on Sunday. Exploring the wild Lammermuir Hills, visiting Dunbar Garden Centre and the Myreton Motor Museum near Gullane. Should be good.

Hi Jim,

Happy Birthday to your 90 year old motor!

Next year my car ( chassis only) will be 95!

Hopefully see you on Sunday.

Kind regards

Bill G

Many happy returns Jim!

Over the past few days I've had to put A7 tinkering onto the back burner because I've been doing some remedials to the pool. Both skimmers were leaking and have to be replaced which meant quite a lot of digging. The first stage is almost complete but it's raining down here in Rekkersland which has put the mokkers on working outside. As there is always something that needs doing on an Austin, I decided to fit the new rear damper springs I'd ordered from David Cochrane. It's amazing how much the original springs have compressed over the years - new on the left, old on the right:

All back together and working again.

Nothing wrong with the MG, just charging the battery.

Grandson Dan called today with all his Lambda Sensor kit. Now that the new exhaust manifold with the Lambda boss is fitted and working to the Ulster it means we can go about setting the carb up. It's all a bit beyond me, I just drive the thing to his instruction whilst he watches the read-out. He did the Trials Car a few months ago and the difference was impressive. We have a nice, straight, bit of rising road not too far away so that's where we went. Seems the Ulster was too rich at the bottom end then leaning out at the top. A few needle adjustments and he pronounced himself satisfied. Must say it is improved. Next stop VSCC Test Day at Blyton at the end of March. What could possibly go wrong!!

Crap weather though, car is filthy and covered in road salt. Why they're still salting the roads round here defeats me.

Steve

Maybe salting because snow is forecast. Here in the Scottish Borders we've been have sleet showers this morning and the tops of the hills were white. Clear blue sky and getting colder now. May be interesting tomorrow on our trip round The Borders. Our route over the wild Lammermuir Hills at 1300ft+ may well be snow covered.

After properly damaging a disc in my back last October there has been little going on in the garage. Today however I managed to get the rebuilt back axle fitted and cabled up. Celebrating with a dram of Auchentoshan, lying flat in front of the fire Smile

Cheers,
Tom
