In the late 60’s we used to go from Barnsley to Scisset to get a portion of Dubbs. They were slices of potato fried without batter, rather like flat chips.

Not all that relevant but just an example of social history. When I started work at an engineering firm in Sheffield as a 16 year-old apprentice in the early 60's there were five different levels of dining. The works canteen for persons in boiler suits (Formica tables/plastic faced chairs), staff dining room for people in office clothes, manager's dining room ( oak panels and padded seating), director's dining room, (waiter service) and the chairman's suite in the top of the 6 storey office block with his own kitchen and superior food and chef. When I retired from the same firm 44 years later there was no food made on the
premises, just a sandwich van calling at lunchtime, and free coffee and tea machine in the mess room.

Bloody luxury.
When I retired we had to eat washed up dead fish off the slipway.
If we were lucky

What do you mean when I retired? Surely you're still working ar'n't you?

I also worked at this esteemed engineering works in Sheffield, although my path and that of Mr Wortley didn't cross until many years after the enlightened management of said engineering works made me redundant in 1971, along with about 1200 other fellows. At that particular time it was deemed cheaper to import fabrications from Japan and South Africa rather than make them in-house.  After a period of unemployment which lasted nearly 6 months I joined her Majesty's Constabulary which provided me with secure remuneration for the next 30 years...

Strangely, Dave and I ended up working again very close to each other at different premises on Europa Way, Sheffield, prior to my retirement in 2001. Before leaving I was involved with officers from Sheffield City Council when they were looking for a suitable name for the road which led from Europa Way to our Operations Complex. I plead "Guilty". Refitted the tyre and tube after replacing the spokes. It went back on without a hitch, or a tyre lever, just walked it back on. A smear of silicone spray on the bead helped a lot.

I wondered who managed to wangle that gem through planning. Very many congratulations.
Much better than naming it after some soon to be forgotten alderman
