As Dave Mann correctly pointed out the broken wire does pull straight out from the hole in the top of the dynamo and feeds onto D terminal.
Having removed the wire it appears to be a perfectly clean cut, not melted or thinned due a tensile break, just chopped square, so not sure how that has occurred.
I am sure it can be repaired but certainly not in situ so as the dynamo has to be removed and as I already have a reconned dynamo, I will swop them over and then have the broken one reconned as the spare.
