  Get me Home
Posted by: bob46320 - 28-08-2022, 04:11 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

The other day, there was a post regarding an engine that wouldn't start - was it coil, wiring etc etc.  I think I replied something like wire the coil direct to the battery.
Well, today whilst on a club outing 32 deg C !! phew.. engine stopped and we coasted onto the grass verge. Within a few minutes, 5 or 6 heads appeared .... questions, questions ....   I had had a few murmurings from the ignition switch the other week causing the ammeter to swing about.
Thinking that the switch was the problem, I was able to quickly run a cable from battery + to the + side of the coil and we were back in business.  Just shows how useful a length of wire and two crocodile clips can be !!  Incidentally and of absolutely no need to know, the wire was taken from a scrapped Vickers Valiant bomber which was being broken up in 1965 at Weybridge - the wire is still flexible and insulation in good order!
Now I had better get down to the shed and fix that switch before we go on a longer jog with Bruce alias Reckers.

Undiscovered A7 rolling chassis in derelict garage
Posted by: Bob Olive - 28-08-2022, 01:08 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (5)

Not usually my cup of tea, but this auto-suggest YouTube video reveals an A7 rolling chassis complete with engine in a derelict garage 'somewhere in England' (or possibly Great Britain)! It looks in reasonable condition and should be saved in case the scrappies move in when the site is developed. Anyone have any ideas as to location?  Strange thing is the B E seems as much impressed by the spiders' webs than the vehicles themselves.

Even more interesting are the two seemingly delectable prewar (?) BMWs in the same clip.

Look on YT for The Bearded Explorer - "We found some incredible vintage cars'.  It only appeared about a week ago.  The A7 appears at about 4.30, the BMWs later.
I don't know how to attach the link to YT, but the above description should find it.  Definitely worth as serious look...

This photo of a 1947 to 1952 Austin Devon Van turned up on Facebook which led me to research The Car Mart Limited - hence the prewardealerships link below.

  Ruby Mk2 Headlights
Posted by: k8207418 - 27-08-2022, 10:47 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

What size headlights came with Ruby ?
I have seen advertisements for 7”,6” , 6 15/16”
The ones that came in the box of bits are a bit ropey and one has been rubbed down to brass.
Where exactly do you measure the shell to get the measurements?
Thanks

1972 Downloads of 50th Anniversary Photographs

In case anyone would like the original, much higher-resolution scans, they can be downloaded. Use this format in the URL box of your web browser e.g. http://www.lathes.uk/50th-1.jpg (that will download picture No. 1) or http://www.lathes.uk/50th-10.jpg (for picture No.10) etc. The final picture is No.31 http://www.lathes.uk/50th-31.jpg On a slow connection some may take a little time to appear.

  Magneto for 1924
Posted by: Ian Rendle - 25-08-2022, 08:48 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (6)

Does anyone know which magneto should be fitted to a late 1924 car? I have BLICs but it's been suggested the correct mag should be a Scintilla.
Thankyou
